The #1 Thing You Should Be Doing To Help You Stay On Track

by | Motivation

I used to be VERY hard on myself.

I had to be the top of the class.

If I did anything I had to be the best.

And when things didn’t come out perfectly like planned, I would end up feeling down and even depressed.

For instance, back in my fitness competition days I remember placing 3 out of 3 in one of the competitions.

Last place 🙁

Instead of focusing on the fact that I worked so hard to get to where I was or that I was in the best shape I had ever been in, I was instead bummed because I didn’t do better.

So what did I do next?

I went right back to old habits and stress eating.

And gained back all the weight I lost and added a few extra pounds.

My motto at the time was “Why Bother?!”

My motto at the time was “Why Bother?!”

Instead of being excited for the progress I made, I got down ‘because it should be more’…

…and of course I ended up sabotaging myself by giving up when really the best thing I could have dow was to celebrate how far I came.

That I was fitter and stronger than I’ve ever been.

That I was moving in the right direction with my health and fitness.

That the weight is coming off (instead of on or staying stuck).

That I was more consistent with my workouts and nutrition than I’d ever been.

That I was taking the time to take care of me.

Unfortunately, I didn’t know that at the time, but luckily have learned it over the years with some great mentors and books I’ve read!

See when we CELEBRATE our successses something very different happens.

We feel proud of their accomplishments.

We get excited to see what they can achieve next.

We are motivated to keep going.

We continue to reach our goals!

Every little win counts, and the key to success is to stop negating the amazing progress you’re making and instead be proud, no matter how tiny that progress is…

…even if it’s a little slower than expected, even if it’s not perfect, its still progress!!!

So what’s one small progress you can celebrate today?
