Are you pumped and excited to go on another diet?
If you’re like most women, the answer is a big resounding “NO!”
No one WANTS to be on a strict, depriving diet because…well they are just miserable.
However, that’s what we’ve been told…that you have to go on a diet to lose weight.
That you have to be all-in, all-or-nothing, depriving and starving yourself to get any results.
But here’s a big secret…you were misled.
Yep, by big companies that have something to sell and are more worried about margins than actually selling you something that works or even something that’s healthy for you.
Ok so it may work temporarily (if even that), but usually, those diets just set you up for failure in the long run. And if you’re not KEEPING that weight off then to me that is not a true success.
If dieting worked so well, why would pretty much everyone you know always be looking for the next big diet with little to show for it?!?
And I get it…I’ve been there done that and tried everything from Slim Fast Shakes (gross), to bodybuilder diets, to low carb, low fat, low calorie, eating weird foods, you name it.
Hopping from diet to diet was miserable.
I remember spending 16 weeks getting ready for my second fitness competition in 2008…I looked great. Actually, it was the leanest I’ve ever been.
But it didn’t last…within 3 months after the competition not only did I gain the weight back, but I added an extra 5 pounds on top of it.
UGH! This is typical of most extreme diets and it’s the worst feeling!
So I continued to do this for a few more years. That up and down yo-yo.
And it was frustrating because I always ended up right back where I was, well actually with MORE weight than when I started so I gradually got bigger and bigger…
So the diet worked…but only temporarily. And looking back that’s not a success. Keeping the weight off and feeling good about myself is really what I was looking for.
I repeated this cycle another handful of times and finally decided there had to be a better way.
Other people get it off and keep it off, so why couldn’t I?
They worked temporarily. But after the diet was over I ALWAYS gained the weight back plus a few extra pounds.
And it’s frustrating and defeating…especially when you work so hard only to end up right back where you started (or worse off!)
It’s almost like why even bother, right?
But here’s the thing…research has shown that going on a diet is a predictor of weight gain! Yes, going on a diet actually increases your chances of gaining weight. Is that not crazy?!
It breaks my heart that the media and big companies continue to give us crappy advice that doesn’t work. I fell into their trap for many many years.
So, if your goal is to get the weight off and keep it off something has got to change!! This diet approach does NOT work. And I’m here to tell you that you CAN lose the weight and keep it off.
Luckily I’ve seen it happen with 100’s of women who have gotten amazing results!
So what’s the secret? What turned it around for me and all the other women I’ve worked with over the last 10 years?
It’s so simple, but it works! I’ve seen it work not just with myself, but with 100’s of clients I’ve worked with over the years.
It’s simply focusing on ONE thing at a time.
It’s really just the exact opposite of dieting.
Instead of trying to change EVERYTHING all at once…which we just aren’t wired to do so we end up feeling overwhelmed and give up…try just focusing on one small change for 30 days.
What you’ll find is that one thing becomes easier as the month moves on. You start to learn how to implement that one thing easily into your life. And the next thing you know you really don’t have to think much about it.
It becomes a habit, a part of your life.
So then you move onto the next thing…and the next thing. And it all accumulates and adds up into a fitter, healthier, stronger body that stays with you!
After a year, you’ll have permanently changed 12 habits. After 5 years, 60 new habits could be just a part of your life. You’d be an entirely new person (who looks and feels fabulous!)
These ONE things could be:
- cutting back on soda or wine
- cutting out the late night snacking
- swapping that afternoon cookie for some veggies or hummus
- making a healthier breakfast instead of grabbing a muffin and coffee
- walking everyday
- consistently exercising 3 days per week
- going to bed an hour earlier…
I could go on but I think you get the idea.
And not only is this less overwhelming and easier to stick to, but it works…actually it works better than any diet you’ll find out there!
You’ll more easily lose weight and you’ll feel good about yourself…because you can easily follow through and make lasting changes.
